What is an Outpatient Treatment Program?
Outpatient treatment is a style of rehabilitation where the patient attends regular meetings at a recovery facility. Patients of Freedom Recovery will work with healthcare providers, therapists, and receive spiritual guidance during the program. Outpatient treatment doesn’t involve patients staying at the treatment facility, and depending on the program patients will meet anywhere from one to six times per week.
Patients Who Will Most Benefit from an Outpatient Program
Patients that will most benefit from outpatient programs are those who are unable to commit to a full-time 12-week inpatient program. During an outpatient program each patient will maintain their lives outside of treatment, but make regular visits to the recovery center. Inpatient programs require patients to live at the facility, while outpatient programs provide more flexibility for patients to maintain jobs and other responsibilities.

How Outpatient Programs Differ from Inpatient Programs
The differences in these two programs aren’t significant, however when trying to find a program that works for each individual we believe placement is crucial. By selecting the most fitting substance use disorder treatment program the patient may find more success in their recovery journey.
A standard outpatient rehab program will meet somewhere between one and three times each week for a couple of hours. During this time patients will undergo group therapy to discuss their recovery journey, be open about their shortcomings, provide support and feedback within the group, and celebrate with each other as they move closer to a life free of alcohol and drug addiction.
Intensive outpatient programs follow a similar structure, but require the patients to attend meetings more frequently. During intensive outpatient rehab programs patients will meet up to six times each week and their group sessions can last up to 6 hours. This time will be spent doing many of the same activities including therapy, educational sessions, future planning, and strengthening of their mental health.
Who Makes A Good Candidate for IOP?
Determining the best style of care is an important step when beginning an addiction recovery journey. An intake assessment provides our healthcare staff a better idea of each patient’s needs and helps them to determine which program they are a good candidate for. IOP isn’t necessarily a better addiction recovery program. The entire process of placement and individualized substance abuse treatment is to help the patient get the best care for their recovery journey. During an intensive outpatient program the patients will have a more comprehensive schedule at our treatment center. This will include more frequent visits to the outpatient facility, longer addiction treatment sessions, and in some cases a more intense therapy. Benefits of Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs
Intensive Outpatient Programs, or IOPs have their own unique benefits and can be extremely helpful in some situations. IOP patients will not be on site full time, so drug testing is a necessary part of their recovery. This step is designed to create a form of accountability and to provide structure throughout intensive outpatient treatment. Every person’s path to recovery is unique to their experiences and there is no one direct path. Drug testing is not a form of punishment, but a way to allow the patient and our staff to work together to better understand the patient’s recovery needs. During an intensive outpatient treatment program patients will develop the necessary skills to successfully navigate life outside of rehab.
A Structured Program & Facility
Intensive outpatient programs are structured similarly to standard Outpatient Programs and include group therapy, individual counseling, spiritual guidance, after care planning, education on substance abuse, and more. With any form of outpatient care the patients will continue to provide their own living space. All outpatient treatment options have a better success rate when the patient has a strong support system outside of the Freedom Recovery outpatient treatment program. Our intensive outpatient programming does provide a structured environment for patients to find help and support during their recovery journey, however we take into account the patient’s life outside of the program. With intensive outpatient treatment programs patients will be expected to adhere to their agreed substance abuse treatment plan and attend all of their meetings. We find that through structured treatment programs patients find more success breaking their drug or alcohol addiction.
Benefits of Outpatient Addiction Treatment
One of the most noteworthy benefits of attending an outpatient program is the flexibility of the treatment. With an inpatient program patients are required to remain at the recovery center full-time. During an outpatient program a patient will continue living at their current residence, or may temporarily live with a loved one to get their support. Outpatient addiction treatment provides more flexibility and allows patients to maintain many necessary parts of their lives outside of the addiction treatment program. Outpatient treatment is also typically a cheaper program since inpatient care will involve a temporary residence along with food and other boarding services. The cost of all inpatient and outpatient treatment programs will depend on insurance and other factors.
Flexible Outpatient Drug Rehab
Despite being a structured program, an outpatient treatment program provides some flexibility with scheduling. We fully understand that sometimes there are difficulties with healing from a substance use disorder while simultaneously maintaining a full life. Because of this we provide different scheduling options for patients who are partaking in one of the Freedom Recovery outpatient programs. Oftentimes those in an outpatient program have family responsibilities they cannot pass along to others, a job they must continue to work, and other commitments that require their attention. With the different scheduling options Freedom Recovery provides we can work with each patient to find a schedule that works best both for their life outside of recovery, and their recovery journey. Drug and alcohol addiction are both difficult diseases to find healing in, and we want to make our recovery services as accessible as possible to as many people seeking help. Recovery with Community
With outpatient treatment patients will undergo group therapy, counseling, group discussion, educational settings, and can maintain a recovery community after their treatment has ended. With a built in community patients will find a unique form of support from others who are on the same path to recovery. Incorporating community gives patients a deeper understanding on the disease of addiction and the necessary steps to healing.
